What Now? Envisioning Pathways to a Just, Carbon-Free Future
Wednesday, November 20, 7-8:15 in the Cummins Room
Following the Plant-based Friendsgiving Potluck
Join Todd Pierson, EJ team communications coordinator, in an activity that will help us explore and understand effective energy policy strategies to meet the climate goals of the UN Paris Agreement 2015, despite the Nov. 5 election setback. Todd, who trained with Climate Interactive, will use their online simulator, enROADS, “to pull the levers of energy and environmental policy” to see how they impact greenhouse atmospheric gases and global temperature increases.
We will explore
- Nature based solutions
- Food and agricultural solutions
- Ways to transition away from fossil fuel energy sources
- Incentivizing alternative and renewable energy solutions
- Evaluating the effectiveness of different combinations of strategies in meeting goals
We will create a pathway for a possible livable and just future for our planet. At the end of the evening, we’ll discuss what this pathway could mean for our church community. Are there things we can do as a congregation that will help realize this future?
Bring your cellphones. We will be using a fun electronic tool to explore what we as a group feel is the best pathways forward.
